PM Arrives in Russia to Attend Eastern Economic Forum, Meets Prez Putin

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Russia to attend the two-day-long Eastern Economic Forum that began yesterday and concludes today. At the forum, he would be meeting a host of world leaders from various countries.

This forum is focused on the development of business and investment opportunities in the Russian Far East Region and offers great potential to build close and mutually beneficial cooperation between India and Russia in the region. Interestingly, PM Modi is the first Indian prime minister to visit the Russian Far East Region.

PM Modi, receiving a guard of honor at the Vladivostok airport, was warmly welcomed at the airport on his third bilateral visit to Russia. After arriving in the Russian Far East capital Vladivostok, he tweeted about his short but important visit to the region and becoming a part of various programs-

“Landed in Vladivostok, capital of the Russian Far East and the crossroads of a dynamic region. Looking forward to joining various programmes in this short but important visit.”

Soon after, PM Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the forum to improve the strategic partnership between both nations. They both went to Zvezda shipyard where Prez Putin showed PM Modi the cutting edge technologies in the field, PM tweeted-

“Deeply touched by President Putin’s gracious gesture to accompany me to Zvezda shipyard, which is poised to make a huge contribution to development of Arctic shipping.”

In another tweet, PM wrote-

“During our visit, President Putin showed me cutting edge technologies at the shipyard. My visit opens up new pathways of cooperation in this important field.”

PM Modi Modi held bilateral talks with President Putin and signed several agreements. Calling it a landmark occasion, PM said he was delighted to be a part of the 20th India-Russia Annual Summit. He wrote-

“A landmark occasion in the history of a landmark friendship!
Delighted to be participating in the 20th India-Russia Annual Summit.

Reviewed the full range of India-Russia relations during the extensive meeting with President Putin. Our talks will add strength to bilateral ties.”

PM praised Prez Putin’s efforts to strengthen the bilateral ties and said that India supports it through high-level participation. He said-

“The efforts of President Putin, glimpses of which are clearly seen in a platform like Eastern Economic Forum, are commendable. India fully supports this effort, as demonstrated by the high level participation from India, be it in the form of business leaders or state CMs.”

PM Modi said he discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest with President Putin and explored opportunities to protect the environment-

“Today’s talks with President Putin were aimed at finding new horizons of India-Russia cooperation. This includes opportunities in trade, security, maritime cooperation and working together to protect the environment.
@KremlinRussia_E”

Sharing the memories and moments from 2001 to 2019, he recalled the India-Russia Summit of November 2001 when he accompanied the then Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Gujarat CM. PM Modi wrote-

“Memories and moments, from 2001 and 2019!

While participating in the 20th India-Russia Summit today, my mind also went back to the India-Russia Summit of November 2001 when Atal Ji was PM. That time, I was honoured to be a part of his delegation as Gujarat CM.”

Then, he tweeted about the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition which Prez Putin took him to-

“I am grateful to my friend, President Putin for taking me around the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition this evening. This brief conversation shows his passion towards sports, even those popular in India :)”

He shared glimpses of the vibrant culture of the Russian Far East shown at the exhibition-

Also, PM expressed gratitude to President Putin for his support and explained the reason behind India’s recent judgment J&K of scrapping Article 370, 35A. PM Modi also informed about the “false and misleading” propaganda by Pakistan.

Moreover, PM Modi thanked President Putin and the people of Russia for honoring him with Russia’s highest civilian award, ‘Order of St Andrew the Apostle’ award, for his exceptional services in boosting bilateral ties between India and Russia.
