PM Laid the Foundation of National Highways Project in West Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to West Bengal yesterday, addressed a rally in Jalpaiguri district and later went on to lay the foundation stone for the new National Highway project for significant infrastructural development in the state.

Here’s a glimpse from PM’s Jalpaiguri rally.

The four laning of the Falakata-Salsalabari section of NH 31 D has been planned in the northern part of the state. The Nation Highway section spanning 41.7 km is in Jalpaiguri. As per a press release by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the highway project’s construction would be worth nearly Rs 1,938 crore. This highway project would lead to several benefits such as reduce traveling time and generate employment opportunities.

The ministry states that this highway project development would cut down the distance from Salsalabari and Alipurduar to Siliguri by approximately 50 km. And this would prove to be a crucial step for the state as better connectivity to Siliguri city implies better access to Indian Railways and airports.

Moreover, the project would aid even better movement of tea and other agricultural items from the region to the markets. Apart from these benefits, the highway would offer enhanced connectivity, leading to boosted tourism in the area. Due to all the facilities, the Ministry Road Transport and Highways maintains that the project would provide a vital boost to the socio-economic activity in West Bengal, generating employment opportunities for the local people.

Supporting the road users, the National Highway would include all the essential safety features. The ministry in the press release said that this 41.7 km long section of the National Highway would have three railway over bridges, three vehicular underpasses, eight major bridges, 17 minor bridges, and two flyovers.

Also, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation for 5 National Highways projects in Ayodhya. These highway projects are estimated to be around Rs 7195 crore cost, spanning a total length of 632 km.
