On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official Twitter handle to thank President of the United States Donald Trump and the First Lady of the US Melania Trump for their “path-breaking” two-day visit to India.

The PM tweeted-

“Thank you @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS @MELANIATRUMP for coming to India. This visit has been a path-breaking one. We have covered great ground as far as strengthening bilateral relations are concerned. India-USA friendship benefits the people of our nations and the world.”

He further added-

“I am delighted that @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS @MELANIATRUMP saw different aspects of Indian culture and hospitality.

The people of India welcomed them with immense warmth.”

Also, concluding his India visit yesterday, US Prez Trump signed MOUs (Memorandums of Understanding) with Indian govt, delivered press statements with PM Modi, and held bilateral meetings.

Yesterday, the PM shared the video of the press meet and tweeted-

“Press statements with @POTUS @realDonaldTrump.”

After holding bilateral talks with US Prez Trump, PM Modi shared a tweet thread-

“Yet another excellent meeting and talks with my friend @realDonaldTrump.

Relations between India and USA are not merely ties between two governments. Ours is a friendship that is people-driven and people centric.

Our nations are cooperating extensively, which is a great sign.”

He added-

“During talks with @POTUS today, we discussed cooperation in sectors including defence, security, connectivity, energy, technology and more.

We agreed to work towards further cementing people-to-people linkages between our nations.”

In another tweet from the thread, the PM wrote about how both nations are collaborating on combating drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, and organized crime, and are furthering innovation in industries-

“India and USA will keep working together to combat drug trafficking, narco-terrorism and organised crime.

Living in the era of Industry 4.0, our countries will also collaborate on furthering innovation as well as a spirit of enterprise.”

Moreover, US Prez Trump and PM Modi signed two MOUs on Mental Health and the Safety of Medical Products and also a Letter of Cooperation. Regarding the negotiations for the mutually beneficial trade deals, he wrote in his tweet-

“On trade, our Commerce Ministers had constructive interactions. @POTUS and I agreed to give a legal shape to the understanding between our Ministers so far.

It is the view of both nations to begin negotiations for a trade deal that will be mutually beneficial.”

Furthermore, the PM quoted US Prez Donald Trump’s daughter, who is also Senior Advisor to her father, Ivanka Trump’s tweet and wrote-

“India is happy to have hosted Jared and you. Your liking towards India is clearly visible.

My best wishes to you in your endeavours to further empowerment and enterprise among women.

Hoping to see you both back in India soon!”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on to receive the President of the United States, Donald Trump, at Ahmedabad airport, who is on his two-day long India visit that began on Monday.

On the first day of his visit, the two world leaders, along with US First Lady Melania Trump, visited Sabarmati Ashram, held a mega roadshow, and addressed a huge community program ‘Namaste Trump’ at the newly-built Motera cricket stadium.

Welcoming US Prez Trump to India, the PM tweeted-

“Welcome to India @realDonaldTrump”

Soon after, PM Modi, US President Donald Trump, and the First Lady Melania Trump paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram. Also, they tried their hands at Gandhiji’s charkha (or spinning wheel). After the visit, PM Modi wrote in his tweet-

“Upon landing in Ahmedabad, @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS @MELANIATRUMP went to Sabarmati Ashram.

The path and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi are not only globally popular but also very relevant in today’s times.”

Moreover, PM Modi and President Trump held two grand roadshows in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat. During the first roadshow, they traveled from Ahmedabad airport to Sabarmati Ashram. And they started the second roadshow from Sabarmati Ashram and concluded it at the newly constructed cricket stadium in Motera, which is being called the world’s biggest cricket stadium. At this huge stadium in Ahmedabad, both PM Modi and US President Trump addressed the ‘Namaste Trump’ community program.

As US Prez Trump and First Lady Melania Trump seated beside PM Modi, the PM began the joint mega event and said “Namaste, Trump” thrice. Both leaders hugged each other for the second time on the stage.

While talking about bilateral ties between the US and India, PM Modi said at the event,

“India, US relation is no longer just another partnership. It is now a far greater, closer relationship. There is so much that we share: Shared Values & Ideals, Shared Spirit of Enterprise & Innovation, Shared Opportunities & Challenges, Shared Hopes & Aspirations.”

Further, recalling his last year’s visit to the US when he addressed the grand summit ‘Howdy Modi’ in Houston, PM Modi said-

“Five months ago, I was invited for a historic visit to Houston where were had a programme called ‘Howdy, Modi!’… Today, he is here for a historic visit to Ahmedabad, where he is being greeted with Namaste Trump.”

The stadium, having a capacity of 1.1 lakh, was packed to the rafters and met President Trump’s expectations of being welcomed by “millions.” The seats, in the Indian team’s blue and orange colors, were occupied by tens of thousands of people who wore white caps and saffron scarves.

Namaste Trump: PM Modi Expresses Delight Over US Prez’s Upcoming Visit

Last year in September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended and addressed the mega event ‘Howdy Modi,’ which witnessed thousands of Indian Americans at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. And now, the President of the United States Donald Trump would visit India on 24 and 25 February.

On Prez Trump’s upcoming visit, PM Modi expressed delight and said that this visit would be special and go a long way in boosting the bilateral relations between both nations.

He posted this tweet on his official Twitter handle last week-

“Extremely delighted that @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS will visit India on 24th and 25th February. India will accord a memorable welcome to our esteemed guests.

This visit is a very special one and it will go a long way in further cementing India-USA friendship.”

In another tweet, the PM further added-

“India and USA share a common commitment to democracy and pluralism. Our nations are cooperating extensively on a wide range of issues. Robust friendship between our nations augurs well not only for our citizens but also for the entire world.”

At the forthcoming visit of President Trump, both the world leaders are anticipated to share the stage in an event being called “Namaste Tump” at the newly-built Motera cricket stadium (which they would inaugurate as well) in Ahmedabad on Feb 24. The stadium holds a capacity to seat around 1-lac people and is said to be the world’s biggest cricket stadium.

Besides, Prez Trump would be offered a spinning wheel, two books on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, and a portrait of the Father of the Nation as a gift during his visit to the Sabarmati Ashram on Feb 24. PM Modi would also accompany him on his ashram visit.

Trump is going to be the first US president who would visit the ashram. As per Ashram trustees Kartikeya Sarabhai and Amrut Modi, both the US President, the First Lady of the US Melania Trump, and PM Modi would spend about 30 minutes at the ashram.

According to the sources, Trump and Melania may try their hands on the spinning wheel (charkha) near ‘Hriday Kunj.’ They added-

“We will gift Trump a spinning wheel, Gandhiji’s autobiography and a book named My Life My Message.”

Amrut said-

“The ashram would also gift Gandhiji’s portrait to Trump. Along with the charkha, we will give him a note describing its importance in the country’s freedom struggle.”

He added that the dignitaries would be welcomed with garlands made from ‘khadi’ (hand-woven fabric).

The two leaders would also participate in a roadshow, which would begin from the Ahmedabad airport and end at the cricket stadium in Motera after crossing the ashram.

“The USA visit begins with a wide range of programmes in Houston. I would be interacting with top energy sector CEOs, various groups of Indians based there and top ranking leaders of USA. The programmes in the energetic city of Houston will surely add greater energy to our ties.”

PM Modi will be in the US for about a week from 21 to 27 September, during which he would be meeting President Trump twice. The two world leaders will jointly address ‘Howdy, Modi’ summit that is to be held on September 22 in Houston.

“On Sunday, the 22nd at 10:15 AM local time there would be a large community programme in Houston. We are honoured that US President Donald Trump is gracing the programme with his presence. This gathering would be a new milestone in India-USA ties. I look forward to my meeting with US President Donald Trump.”

Further, he tweeted-

Also, both PM Modi and President Trump would attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. He tweeted-

“In New York City, a large part of the programmes will be at the UN. Since its inception, India has been actively participating in various programmes and initiatives of the UN, reflecting our unwavering commitment to multilateralism. My address at the UNGA would be on the 27th.”

In another tweet, he further said-

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on his official social media handle to say that he is “delighted” about the United States President Donald Trump attending ‘Howdy, Modi‘ which is a mega rally to be held on September 22 in Houston, Texas.

Some hours after the White House confirmed the Trumps’ presence at the grand summit, PM Modi tweeted-

“A special gesture by @POTUS, signifying the special friendship between India and USA!

Delighted that President @realDonaldTrump will join the community programme in Houston on the 22nd.

Looking forward to joining the Indian origin community in welcoming him at the programme.”

In another tweet, he wrote-

As per PTI, PM Modi requested President Trump regarding the joint address at Houston when they both held a meeting in France previous month on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

The White House officials said that Trump “immediately accepted” PM Modi’s invitation of joining him in Houston, Tx. Also, Prez Trump asked his officials and secret service to make the required arrangements.

Moreover, It is going to be the third meeting between PM Modi and President Trump this year. Earlier this year, the two leaders met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Japan that was held back in June and on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France.

At the Houston mega rally, PM Modi would address a large gathering of 50,000 Indian-Americans. It will be the first time when a US President and an Indian Prime Minister would jointly address a rally.

This Houston event will be PM Modi’s third major address to the Indian-American community since he was elected as the Prime Minister in 2014 as well as the first since his re-election in May 2019.

PM Modi’s past two addresses to the Indian-American community were at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2014 and the Silicon Valley in 2016. Over 20,000 people attended both of these events.

The non-profit Texas India Forum is organizing the “Howdy, Modi!” event. Texas India Forum is a recently-constituted representative body of hundreds of Indian-American organizations in Texas and the other parts of the United States.

New Delhi: On Monday, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump of the US held discussions on bilateral trade between the two countries during a telephonic conversation that was 30-minute-long.

Furthermore, PM Modi spoke on the concerns over the extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence by certain leaders in the region and called it an obstacle to peace.

While having the conversation, Prime Minister Modi recalled his meeting with President Trump on the sidelines of G-20 Summit in Osaka back in June this year. According to a statement released by Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi hoped for the Commerce Minister of India and the US Trade Representative to meet sooner at an early date to discuss the bilateral trade prospects for mutual benefit.

Regarding the regional situation, PM Modi stated that extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence by certain leaders in the region was not promoting peace. Also, he highlighted the value of creating an environment that is free from terror and violence as well as controlling cross-border terrorism without exception.

While conversing with President Trump, PM Modi re-emphasized India’s commitment to showing cooperation to anyone who supports the country and world in combating illiteracy, poverty, and disease.

After the Modi government made the historic move of scrapping Article 370 (which granted special status to J&K state) and forming Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories about two weeks ago, India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads. In the verbal attack later, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan compared the Modi government to the fascist, supremacist reign of Nazi Germany.

During the conversation with President Trump, PM Modi reasserted in a statement-

“India’s longstanding and unwavering commitment to working for united, secure, democratic and truly independent Afghanistan.”

On Monday, Afghanistan celebrated 100 years of independence.

PM Meets a Host of World Leaders at the G20 Summit 2019’s Final Day

On the final day of the ongoing G-20 summit in Japan’s Osaka today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meeting a host of world leaders including Australian PM Scott Morrison and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Prime Minister met Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and also held a bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Later, PM Modi will also hold three pull-asides with Italian President Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, Chile President Sebastian Pinera, as well as a bilateral meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. And, Prime Minister Modi will host a final bilateral meet with Australian PM Scott Morrison, shortly before departing for New Delhi.

PM Modi already had one meeting with Trump during the JAI trilateral yesterday. But, before the session of the G20 reopened, PM Modi will meet with US President Donald Trump again this morning.

On Friday, the Prime Minister put forward a five-point approach to address common challenges facing the world, including terrorism, protectionism, and unilateralism at global financial organizations.

Earlier PM Modi tweeted,

“The BRICS family comes together yet again!

Delighted to meet BRICS leaders. Shared my thoughts on the importance of access to energy and energy security, making WTO mechanisms stronger and fighting protectionism and close cooperation to eliminate forces of terror.”

Further PM Modi met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and wrote on Twitter,

“Met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. We reviewed the full range of relations between India and Saudi Arabia. Our talks today will add great strength to bilateral ties between our nations.”

Speaking at the informal BRICS leaders’ meeting in Osaka, PM Narendra Modi said that terrorism not only kills innocents but also severely affects the economic development and social stability; hence it is the biggest threat to humanity.

PM Modi added that there is a necessity to stop all the mediums of support to racism as well as terrorism.

He also met South Korea President, shared pictures on Twitter and wrote,

“It is always special to meet my good friend, President Moon Jae-in. He is extremely passionate about furthering friendship between India and the Republic of Korea. Today, we talked about various steps to enhance trade, economic and people-to-people relations. @moonriver365”

PM Modi also talked with Chancellor of Germany. He wrote,

“Had detailed discussions with Chancellor Merkel.

There is immense scope for even stronger relations with Germany in areas such as technology and infrastructure.

Deepening cultural ties is also a key focus area.”

He later posted,

“Friendly nations, futuristic outcomes.

The RIC (Russia-India-China) meeting was an excellent forum to discuss ways to enhance multilateral cooperation between our nations and work to mitigate challenges being faced by our planet, most notably terrorism and climate change.”

After meeting President of Indonesia, he wrote,

“Excellent meeting with President @jokowi, where we reviewed all aspects of India-Indonesia ties.

Looking forward to increasing maritime cooperation, more trade and stronger people-to-people linkages with Indonesia.”

And, after meeting President of Brazil, he wrote,

“Happy to have met President @jairbolsonaro of Brazil. India and Brazil are cooperating extensively and working together in various global forums. Building on this, we seek to further diversify economic and cultural relations with Brazil.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison at the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Japan. They both took a selfie to mark the meeting.

Australian State Head took to Twitter to share the selfie and wrote,

On Friday, PM held the second JAI (Japan-America-India) trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ahead of the formal opening of the G-20 Summit in Osaka. He extensively discussed with them on the topics related to infrastructure development, Indo-Pacific region, and connectivity improvement.

While at the trilateral meeting of Japan-America-India, PM Modi highlighted the importance that India attaches to JAI. PMO tweeted,

“Committed to a better future. Meeting of JAI (Japan-America-India)Trilateral takes place in Osaka. PM @AbeShinzo welcomes the leaders. @POTUS congratulates Prime Ministers Modi and Abe for their electoral victories. PM Modi highlights the importance India attaches to JAI.”

Earlier on Thursday, Modi held talks with Japanese PM Abe on a wide range of topics such as issues relating to fugitive economic offenders, global economy, and disaster management. PM Modi tweeted-

Our talks covered the full range of India-Japan relations.

Extensive cooperation between India and Japan augurs well for the citizens of our countries and the entire world.”

Later, PM Modi also held a trilateral meeting with President Trump.

When it comes to social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rules there also. Yes, you’ve heard right, PM Modi hits the first spot in the list of the most followed world leaders on Instagram. He has around 15.5 million Instagram followers.

In the same list, Indonesian President Joko Widodo is at the second position, and US President Donald Trump is at third. Apart from them, Queen Rania of Jordan, Pope Francis, and the Royal Family of the UK are some of the other Instagram accounts which come under the list of the ten most followed world leaders.

Also, he is the most “effective” world leader on Instagram, with every one of his 239 posts and videos from this year earning 873,302 interactions.

The first ever trilateral meet between Indian, American, and Japanese heads PM Narendra Modi, President Donald Trump and PM Shinzo Abe respectively was held on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Calling the India-America-Japan partnership ‘JAI’ or victory, PM Modi said that it (the partnership between the three countries) would be pivotal in long-term to ensure world peace and prosperity.

Post the meet, PM Modi said: “If I put it differently, Japan, America, and India is JAI. In Hindi, ‘JAI’ means success.”

PM Modi added: “In a way, JAI (the trilateral meet) is a message of success and we are making a new beginning. Our arrangement I believe will play a big role in promoting world peace and prosperity.”

According to PM Modi, it was a “good occasion” as the three nations committed to democratic values gathered for a meeting to discuss on furthering global peace, prosperity, and stability.

PM Modi further said: “I am glad both US and Japan are our strategic partners. Both the leaders (Trump and Abe) have been my good friends. It is a good opportunity to work together.”

“JAI (Japan, America, India) trilateral marks the coming together of three friendly nations. Today’s historic JAI meeting was a great beginning. PM @AbeShinzo, @POTUS and I held fruitful talks aimed at furthering connectivity, maritime cooperation, and a stable Indo-Pacific.”

Speaking with the media regarding the meeting, the Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said that it was a “very warm meeting” and US President Trump and Japan PM Abe praised PM Modi for the “reforms and development that he has done.”

Mr. Gokhale said, “The three leaders exchanged views on the Indo-Pacific. They all agreed that free, open, inclusive and rules-based order is essential for regional peace and prosperity. The Prime Minister offered some ideas on how we should take forward on the concept of Indo-Pacific and how the three countries can work together to promote this concept.”

He said that PM Modi found it imperative that the three countries reach out to all the stakeholders to demonstrate the advantages of Indo-Pacific strategy to these countries.

Mr. Gokhale said: “The leaders also agreed to the central role of ASEAN and they also agreed to work on maritime and connectivity issues and to synergize efforts in this regard.”

He said that the three leaders felt that such meetings prove useful and should keep happening on the margins of following G-20 meetings.

Mr. Gokhale added: “Overall, there was a very positive atmosphere and the outcome of this first trilateral has been very encouraging. Prime Minister Modi and the other two leaders were pleased with this outcome.”

Previously, at the first session of the G-20 meeting on the global economy, future of work and women’s empowerment, PM Modi indicated some flagship programmes like Jan Dhan Yojana, MUDRA Yojana, and Start-up India undertaken by the government for modernization of the economy and the promotion of comprehensive growth.
