PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Varanasi

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj were also present in the event. This event was held in PM Modi’s parliamentary constituency of Varanasi.

On this event, PM Modi stated about the International Solar Alliance (ISA)-

“Through this medium, we want to take the world towards One World, One Sun, One Grid.”

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is a celebratory day observed on 9 January by the Republic of India. In 2015, it was started to celebrate this day marking the contribution of the overseas Indian community towards the growth of India. Also, this day memorializes the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on January 9, 1915.

However, it is the first time that this three-day-long convention is being organized from January 21 to 23 rather than January 9 because it will help participants to visit the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj as well as they can attend the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office reported that this year’s convention is centered on the theme ‘Role of the Indian diaspora in building new India’. The Chief Guest of the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas convention is the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth who arrived in Delhi on Sunday on a nine-day visit, and member of Parliament of Norway Himanshu Gulati will be the special guest. Moreover, Pravind Jugnauth surprised the guests when he delivered his keynote address in the Hindi Language.

Speaking on this occasion, Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister said that image of India as a powerful country improved leaps & bounds due to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Moreover, she remembered Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Former Prime Minister for starting Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said,

“In past 4.5 years, our government has given around Rs. 5 lakh 78 thousand crores directly to people through different schemes. We have transferred it to their bank accounts.”

Further, PM Modi spoke about the accomplishments of the External Affairs ministry in easing passport procurement facilities. He said that Indian embassies across the world have now been connected with Passport Sewa.

“Our embassies and consulates across the world are being connected with Passport Sewa Projects. It will prepare a centralized system for passport related services… We are also working towards issuing chip-based e-passports,” he added.

Also, PM Modi declared a Pravasi Teerth Yojana to benefit Indians not only in the country but also across the world.

It is expected that the Prime Minister to meet his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth on the sidelines of the event.

PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates India’s Longest Railroad ‘Bogibeel’ Bridge

As a tribute to former late PM on his 104th birth anniversary, PM Narendra Modi on Monday opened the Bogibeel road-and-rail connector bridge in Assam. It is India’s longest and Asia’s second longest railroad bridge. The foundation of the bridge took place during former PM HD Deve Gowda’s tenure on January 22, 1997, and the work started on April 21, 2002, during Atal Ji’s government. The 4.94 km-long structure, situated across the Brahmaputra river, was built at an estimated cost of Rs. 5,900 crore. It surpassed its original budget of Rs. 3,200 crore and initially planned length of 4.31 km.

The Bogibeel Bridge is designed like a bridge which connects Sweden and Denmark. It is the only bridge in India which is fully-welded and follows the European codes and welding standards. The project required 19,250 meters of reinforcement steel and 30 lakh bags of cement. The engineers of the bridge say that this fully welded bridge has a low maintenance cost. As per the authorities, it has a lifespan of nearly 120 years.

The bridge will link Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts of Assam, adjoining Arunachal Pradesh. Other than Assam’s Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts, the bridge will greatly help the natives of the remote districts like Changlang, Tirap, Anjaw, Dibang Valley, Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Bogibeel bridge has a 2-line railway track on the lower deck and a 3-lane road over the top deck. The travel time between Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts will reduce by four hours, thus avoiding a 170-km detour. Also, Delhi-Dibrugarh train travel time will cut down by three hours.

Moreover, PM Modi also flagged off the train Tinsukia-Naharlagun Intercity Express that will operate five days in the week.

Having proximity to India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh, the Bogibeel bridge would also be crucial for India’s defense as it is sturdy enough to support the movement of tanks. Also the news agency PTI reports, three three road lanes of the bridge can serve as three landing strips for the Air Force’s fighter jets.

Speaking about the delay in the bridge construction, Chief Engineer Mohinder Singh told news agency PTI:

“Early flood in the river Brahmaputra restricted the working season to a very short period of approximately five months – from November to March – and demanded huge mobilization of construction equipment.”

At the bridge inauguration on Monday, PM Modi said:

“Corruption burdens the middle class and deprives poor of their rights. Our government has launched a fight against black money and corruption, and benami properties worth Rs 5,000 crore are confiscated.”

PM further added,

“Around Rs 3 lakh crore money from banks has been recovered which were hanging due to the earlier government.”

PM emphasized the NDA government’s involvement in the reforms for the past four and half years and said that the projects previously costing about Rs 12 lakh crore were either incomplete or had been delayed. He said,

“Our government has decided to finish these projects with a definite timeline.”

PM said that the bridge would transform the face of Northeast India,

“This 4.94-km long bridge will boost the defense sector in India, and help the economy of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.”

He added,

“In four and half years, Bogibeel bridge is the third bridge that has been constructed over Brahmaputra, while in 70 years of Independence, only three bridges have come up over the river. The process of five more bridges has been initiated. Bogibeel is a tribute to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.”

PM also stated about the government’s role in fast-tracking the project completion,

“We have changed the earlier ‘latkaane-bhatkaane’ (dilly-dallying) work culture… Completion of projects within a time frame is no longer confined to paper but has become a truth in the real sense.”

PM Modi also spoke about the other works done in Assam in the past four and half years. It included around 700 km-long national highways, electrification of railway tracks, an AIIMS in Assam work on the new airport terminal in Guwahati, and gas pipeline between Tinsukia and Guwahati have started. He also said that the bridge would reduce rail distance (between Dibrugarh in Assam to Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh) from 700 km to below 200 km.

Moreover, Sadaiv Atal is enclosed by nine bas-relief walls. Those walls have inscriptions of the poetry of Atal Bihari Vajpayee that reflects Vajpayee’s personality as a poet. As a very interesting fact, not a single tree was cut down in developing Sadaiv Atal.

Earlier on Monday, PM also opened India’s longest railroad bridge, Assam’s Bogibeel Bridge to traffic. It is a five-kilometer structure that covers the waters of the mighty Brahmaputra River. According to Chief Engineer Mohinder Singh, it is India’s only fully welded bridge for which European codes and welding standards were adhered to for the first time in India.

“Ajay Bharat, Atal Bhajpa” PM Modi’s New Slogan For 2019 Polls

“Ajay Bharat, Atal Bhajpa” PM Modi’s New Slogan For 2019 Polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi coins a new slogan “Ajay Bharat, Atal Bhajpa” at a two-day executive meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi on Sunday. He will address the two-day party meeting with a valedictory speech.

PM Modi said that the nation needs a capable and reasonable opposition. But those who failed as a government have also failed to play the role of opposition. He reprimanded the opposition for not playing the role of a responsible opposition and not fighting over the real issues.

The party seeks power to work for people not to sit in the chair. BJP is ruling in Gujarat for 31 years because it is not hungry for the power, according to PM Modi.

Party President Amit Shah called the opposition “disruptionists” and its grand alliance an “eyewash”. He also accused the opposition of indulging in acts of “Breaking India”. He has asked the party people from all over the nation to highlight the achievements of BJP government in last four years to counter false allegations of the opposition.

The “fragrance” of BJP and “charisma” of PM Modi will help the party to come again in power with a bigger majority in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, according to party president Amit Shah.

Here are some glimpses of the executive meeting.
