PM Pays Tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on His Birth Centenary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, paid tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (Jatir Pita or Jatir Janak of Bangladesh) on his 100th birth anniversary. Through video conferencing, he took part in the centenary celebrations of Bangabandhu and shared a message.

PM Modi called Sheikh Mujibur Rahman one of the greatest figures of the last century, saying:

“His entire life is a tremendous inspiration to all of us.”

Furthermore, the PM described Bangabandhu as a man of courage, conviction, and sage of peace and said that he inspired the youth of his time to combat the challenges of liberating the nation of Bangladesh.

PM Modi recalled how Bangabandhu dedicated all his life towards bringing Bangladesh out of the phase of devastation and genocide, transforming it into a positive and progressive society. He added-

“Bangabandhu was absolutely clear that hatred and negativity could never be the foundation of any country’s development. But Bangabandhu’s ideas and efforts were not liked by some people who snatched him away from us.”

He further said,

“We are all witnessing that how, making terror and violence weapons of politics and diplomacy destroys a society and a nation. The world is also watching where the supporters of terror and violence are currently placed and in what state they are, while Bangladesh is scaling new heights.”

The PM expressed pleasure on the people of Bangladesh dedicating themselves to make their nation ‘Shonar Bangla,’ as Sheik Mujibur Rahman had dreamt.

Also, PM Modi praised Bangladesh’s progress under the PM of Bangladesh H.E. Sheik Hasina, whose leadership is inspired by Bangabandhu and has inclusive and development-oriented policies. He added that Bangladesh is setting new benchmarks for the economy, social indices, and sports. The PM praised Bangladesh’s unprecedented progress in different fields.

He added that due to higher trust between both the nations to resolve the complex border issues in a friendly manner,

“In the last few years, India and Bangladesh have written a golden chapter in bilateral ties and given a new dimension and direction to our partnership.”

Moreover, PM Modi said that Bangladesh is India’s largest trading partner in South Asia and also a development partner. He mentioned the bilateral cooperation in several connectivity-enhancing sectors like electricity distribution, Friendship Pipeline, Road, Rail, Internet, Airways, and Waterways, which help connect even more people from both nations.

The PM mentioned that the heritage of India and Bangladesh comes from intellectuals like Tagore, Qazi Nazrul Islam, Ustad Alauddin Khan, Lalon Shah, Jibananda Das, and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.

Besides, he said that Bangabandhu’s legacy and inspiration made both nations’ heritage more comprehensive and deep-rooted, and the path Bangabandhu showed laid a strong foundation for the partnership, progress, and prosperity of two countries over the last decade.

Then, he mentioned the coming milestones of both the nations (50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s liberation next year and the 75th anniversary of India’s independence in 2022). He said that these milestones would certainly take India and Bangladesh’s development to newer heights and also strengthen the bilateral friendship.
