PM Modi Holds Informal Summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping

On Friday evening and Saturday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held the second Informal Summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping after the one in Wuhan in 2018. Both the leaders held “open and cordial” one-on-one talks for two and a half hours on Friday and concluded it today morning in Mahabalipuram (or Mamallapuram). Soon, they would be holding delegation-level talks along with top officials at the Tango hall.

During the informal Indo-China summit, the issues related to enhancing trade and cooperation along the border and furthering counter-terror cooperation were likely on the agenda as per sources. Both the sides ould issue separate statements on the outcomes of the two-day informal summit between the leaders.

Earlier on Friday, both the leaders first arrived at Chennai airport in Tamil Nadu and then headed to Mahabalipuram. For the bilateral meeting, PM Modi chose to wear the traditional Tamil attire of a half-sleeved white shirt, an ‘angavastram’ (upper cloth), and white ‘veshti’ (dhoti). On the sidelines, the two leaders visited several tourist spots in the coastal town of Mamallapuram.

PM Modi said that he was delighted to spend time with Prez Xi at Mamallapuram, a UNESCO heritage site. He tweeted-

“Mamallapuram is one of the most beautiful places in India, full of vibrancy. It is linked to commerce, spirituality and is now a popular tourism centre.

I am delighted that President Xi Jinping and I are spending time in this scenic place, which is also a @UNESCO heritage site.”

Also, PM Modi and Prez Xi visited the Arjuna’s Penance and shared pictures on his Twitter handle-

“Arjuna’s Penance is one of the grandest places to see in Mamallapuram. It brings to life aspects of the Mahabharata.

Arjuna’s Penance also showcases the best of Pallava Art, especially the depiction of nature and animals.”

Then, sharing pictures of their visit to the Pancha Rathas, the PM tweeted-

“President Xi Jinping and I saw the marvellous Pancha Rathas.

The five Rathas are examples of monolith rock-cut architecture. The Rathas in this monument include the Dharmaraja Ratha, Bhima Ratha, Arjuna Ratha, Nakula Sahadeva Ratha and Draupadi Ratha.”

Later, both the leaders went to the Shore temple with PM Modi sharing its pictures.

“Overlooking the Bay of Bengal is the majestic Shore Temple.

One of the most iconic landmarks, the Shore Temple exemplifies the greatness and grandness of Indian culture.

Today morning, PM Modi took a walk along the coast of Mamallapuram. He tweeted-

“Refreshing walk and exercises in Mamallapuram, along the scenic coast.”

Also, at the beach, he engaged in the plogging activity for about half an hour. He wrote in a tweet-

“Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes.

Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff.

Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy!

Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy.”
