On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the keynote address at the ‘India Action Plan 2020’ summit, which was hosted by the TV news channel ‘Times Now’ in the national capital New Delhi.
At the summit, PM Modi said that India is the world’s youngest country and is outlining an action plan for the new decade. He added that Young India does not want to slow down. Also, he said that the government welcomed this spirit and made a century in decision-making in the past few months.
Furthermore, the PM stated that these reforms introduced new energy at each level of society and gave it confidence. He added that today, the nation’s poor people feel assured that they can increase their living standards, eliminate their poverty, and farmers are confident of improvement in their farming income.
Regarding building India into a 5 trillion dollar economy, he remarked-
“India aims to expand its economy to 5 trillion dollars in the next five years. It is better to set a target and strive towards it. This goal is not easy but not impossible to achieve.”
Moreover, he said that for reaching this goal, it is crucial that the manufacturing sector is encouraged and the country’s exports are increased. The govt has taken various initiatives for the same.
Additionally, the PM said that amid these efforts, India is facing more challenges along with the fluctuating global economy as it is an emerging economy. He stressed that for the first time, a government focused on the economic growth of small cities and making them new growth hubs.
About improving the tax system, he said,
“Every government has been very hesitant to improve the tax system. There was no change in this for years. Now we are moving from a Process Centric Tax System to a Citizen Centric Tax System. India will join the select countries, where the taxpayers charter is implemented. The charter will clearly define the rights of taxpayers.”
Besides, PM Modi requested all the Indians to think about the issue of people avoiding taxes and the setback it poses to the honest taxpayer and asked everyone to be responsible citizens and pay their taxes.
Also, he urged the media to play a constructive role in creating a prosperous India. He said,
“When everyone fulfils their duties then there would be no problem left to be solved. Then the country would get a new strength, new energy. This would take India to new heights in this decade.”
