PM Modi & German Chancellor Angela Merkel Hold Bilateral Talks in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met the German Chancellor Angela Merkel as she is on her India visit. After holding an extensive range of talks with Chancellor Merkel, PM Modi said that both India and Germany have decided to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation to tackle the threats of terrorism and extremism.

In a press statement after the meeting, PM Modi said-

“We have vowed to build ‘new India’ by 2022 and expertise of technological, economic powerhouses like Germany will be useful for it.”

Further, he said-

“We have resolved to intensify bilateral and multilateral cooperation to deal with terrorism and extremism.”

Also, he said that both nations would continue cooperation for expediting reforms in the UN Security Council. The PM stated that India invited Germany to benefit from the opportunities in defense production in the defense corridors based in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

He said-

“We have decided to tap cooperation possibilities in e-mobility, smart cities, cleaning of rivers and environmental protection.”

Then, holding extensive and fruitful talks with Chancellor Merkel and reviewing India-Germany relations, PM Modi tweeted-

“Today’s talks with Chancellor Merkel were extensive and fruitful. We reviewed the full range of India-Germany relations.

Chancellor Merkel has distinguished herself as one of the most widely respected world leaders. She is also a great friend of India’s.”

Also, PM Modi tweeted-

“India and Germany can work together in areas like artificial intelligence, skills, education and more. We welcome German cooperation in our plans for smart cities, e-moblility and harnessing water resources. 2 Defence corridors also bring many opportunities for German companies.”

After co-chairing the 5th Inter-Governmental Consultations, both the leaders signed five joint declarations of intent and inked 11 pacts in fields like space, civil aviation, maritime technology, medicine, and education. PM Modi tweeted-

“Important MoUs were signed during Chancellor Merkel’s visit. These will further invigorate the India-Germany friendship.

Then, both leaders visited Gandhi Smriti in Delhi and added that Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and beliefs inspire German citizens. He wrote-

“Took Chancellor Merkel to Gandhi Smriti in Delhi. The thoughts and principles of Mahatma Gandhi reverberate in Germany and inspire its citizens.”

Later, he shared details about his upcoming three-day visit to Thailand and tweeted-

“Connecting with the Indian diaspora is something I always look forward to. At 6 PM IST this evening in Bangkok, I would interact with the Indian community based in Thailand. Their contributions to Thailand in various spheres are valuable.”
