PM Modi, French President Held A Meeting in 13th G20 Summit, Argentina

On Saturday, at Buenos Aires, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. It was the third day of the 13th G20 state leader’s summit in Argentina where the two leaders focused on trade and people-to-people ties to strengthen India-France relations.

In this meeting on the sidelines of the G-20 summit, they both discussed common front against terrorist financing, renewable energy, cooperation in maritime security, and reform of international institutions.

After the meeting, Modi tweeted on his Twitter handle,

“Had an excellent meeting with President @EmmanuelMacron. We had wide-ranging discussions on ways to deepen and diversify the India-France strategic partnership, particularly by enhancing trade and people-to-people ties.”

Also, Modi mentioned that Indian visit of Macron in March was a “very important step” towards strengthening India-France relations.

Further, Modi said, “During your visit, the International Solar Alliance’s (ISA) Founding Conference (was held) and the momentum that it (Macron’s visit) gave to the ISA is unprecedented. We took the right steps in the right direction at the right time.”

Moreover, PM Modi stated that it is a matter of “great pride” that the President of France has given him an “open invitation” to come to Paris. He added, “I am very thankful for that and I will definitely visit Paris whenever it is possible.”

Further, he stated that from Paris Peace Forum, held between November 11 and 13, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu returned to India with glowing remarks. And, that commemorated the hundredth anniversary of the armistice of the first World War.

Raveesh Kumar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), also tweeted about the “productive meeting” between the two leaders, highlighting other key topics the two leaders discussed in their meeting. He said,

“PM @narendramodi had a productive meeting with French President @EmmanuelMacron on the margins of #G20Argentina. Both leaders discussed the common front against terrorist financing, and cooperation in maritime security, renewable energy, and reform of international institutions.”

Also, the meeting took place amidst an attack by the Congress party that claims favoritism and corruption in the Rs. 58,000-crore fighter jet deal for purchase of 36 Rafale aircraft from France’s Dassault Aviation.

Though, the government has refused any corruption in the contract, while the BJP has dismissed it as “lies” corruption charges surfaced by the Congress Party.
