Prime Minister Narendra Modi & his Mauritian counterpart PM Pravind Jugnauth, jointly inaugurated the SC building in Mauritius via video conferencing. This new Supreme Court building is the first India-aided infrastructure project in Port Louis inaugurated since the Coronavirus pandemic. This landmark project got completed with the grant support of 28.12 million dollars from the Indian government.
Addressing the occasion, PM Modi emphasized the value of the human-centric approach as the underlying philosophy of India’s development cooperation. Also, he praised the role of people-oriented infrastructure projects in furthering the bilateral ties between India and Mauritius.
Also, the PM, on Thursday, said that the new SC building has a contemporary design and state-of-the-art facilities. A symbol of cooperation and shared values of both countries, he said it would be suitable for the Mauritius judiciary. He also mentioned that the project got completed on schedule and below initial estimates.
Moreover, PM Modi said that development cooperation with Mauritius lies at the heart of India’s approach to development partnerships. He added that India’s development cooperation is neither subject to any conditions nor is influenced by any political/commercial considerations. He said that India’s core principle for development cooperation is respect for partners & the central motivation is shared development lessons.
The PM also emphasized that this distinguishes the Indian development cooperation, characterized by the core values of Respect, Diversity, Care for the Future & Sustainable Development. He noted that India takes pride in Mauritians’ achievements & showed confidence that the bilateral partnership would improve in the future.
Further, Mauritian PM Jugnauth recognized India’s support for the project, showing the close bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation. He mentioned that the Supreme Court Building’s construction with India’s support marks a new milestone in the infrastructure modernization in Mauritius and would help make the country’s justice system more efficient, accessible & inclusive.
Aligned with India’s vision of ‘SAGAR – Security and Growth for All in the Region,’ the new Supreme Court building shows India’s role as a reliable partner of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean region and also its constant commitment toward strengthening the future-oriented partnership between both the nations.

Besides, on Wednesday, the PM held an extensive meeting with banks and NBFCs stakeholders to boost economic growth. Sharing a blog link with details about the same, he tweeted on his official handle-
