PM Modi Congratulates AAP & Arvind Kejriwal on Win in Delhi Elections 2020

On Tuesday, the results of the Delhi Assembly elections 2020 were declared in which Aam Aadmi Party had a landslide win, and Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal earned a second term.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on to congratulate both party and Kejriwal for the victory in polls. Also, PM Modi wished them very best towards the fulfillment of Delhi people’s aspirations.

The PM wrote on his official Twitter handle in his congratulatory tweet-

“Congratulations to AAP and Shri @ArvindKejriwal Ji for the victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections. Wishing them the very best in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Delhi.”

In a prompt response, Delhi CM Kejriwal accepted his wishes by thanking the PM and said that he looks forward to working with the Central govt toward the development of the nation’s capital. He tweeted-

“Thank u so much sir. I look forward to working closely wid Centre to make our capital city into a truly world class city.”

The total seats in Delhi elections were 70, and 36 were needed for a majority. This time around, AAP won 62 seats, which marginally short of the 67 seats it bagged back in 2015. And the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 8 seats, which was five more than that in previous elections (3). And same as last time, Congress won zero seats. Although the total voter turnout was 62.59% during this year’s Delhi polls, lesser than that in 2015 (67.12%), the vote percentage for BJP increased from 38.51% to 32.19%.

While addressing a large crowd of people at the AAP office, Kejriwal called his Delhi victory a victory of a new “kind of politics” and said-

“People of Delhi have given a message that they will vote for schools, mohalla clinics, 24-hour electricity and free water. This is a great message for the country.”
