PM Modi Conducts a Review Meeting on India’s Response to COVID-19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a comprehensive review meeting with the senior ministers and officials regarding India’s response to COVID-19. On Saturday, he reviewed its status on the national level and also the preparation of the ongoing pandemic. He also took stock of the situation in various states and union territories of the country.

Also, Dr. Vinod Paul, NITI member, Convenor of the Empowered Group of Medical Emergency Management Plan, gave a full presentation on the present status and possible scenario of COVID-19 cases in the medium term. They observed that out of the total cases, two-thirds are in five states, with most cases in big cities. Considering the current challenges, especially in the large cities, they suggested an increase in testing & beds and services to effectively manage the peak surge in everyday cases.

Moreover, the PM recognized the Empowered Group’s recommendations on the city- & district-wise requirements of hospital/isolation beds. He directed the Health Ministry officials to undertake emergency planning in a meeting with the States/UTs. He also instructed the Ministry to make sure that suitable preparations are made considering the onset of the monsoon.

Furthermore, they discussed the current and emerging scenario of COVID-19 in the capital and the next two months’ projections. He asked Home & Health Ministers to conduct an emergency meeting with Lt. Governor & Chief Minister of Government of NCT Delhi in the presence of all senior officials of Central & Delhi Governments & Municipal Corporations of Delhi to plan a coordinated & comprehensive response for tackling the challenges arising due to increased COVID-19 cases.

The PM also recognized & praised the several instances of outstanding work by several states, districts & cities in successful checking & controlling of the outbreak. He asked to widely disseminate these success stories & best practices inspire others & provide innovative ideas.

The Home Minister, Health Minister, Principal Secretary to PM, Cabinet Secretary, Health Secretary, DG ICMR & other related conveyance of the Empowered Groups attended the meeting.

He tweeted on his official handle-

“Reviewed the COVID-19 situation across the nation during a high level meeting. We also reviewed the roadmap ahead, and steps to contain the pandemic in the parts where most cases are coming from.”

Yesterday, PM Modi greeted on the festive occasion of Raja Parba and tweeted-

“Greetings on the very special festival of Raja Parba. May this occasion strengthen the spirit of joy and brotherhood in society. I also pray for the good health and well-being of my fellow citizens.”

Further, paying condolences to fans & family, PM Modi expressed shock on the demise of popular Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput. He wrote in his tweet-

“Sushant Singh Rajput…a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti.”
