PM in Kevadia, Pays Tributes to Sardar Patel on 144th Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited Kevadia in Gujarat on occasion of the 144th birth anniversary of the Indian statesman and independence activist, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Patel is known by many names such as Iron Man of India, Bismarck of India, Strong (Iron) Man, and Sardar.

Since the year 2014, 31st October is celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day. Also, today happens to be the first anniversary of the bronze statue of Sardar Patel named ‘Statue of Unity’ that was unveiled last year on this day in honor of his 143rd birthday.

Recently, the PM also shared the news that the world’s tallest statue ‘Statue of Unity’ made it to the TIME’s list of 100 Greatest Places 2019. Moreover, PM Modi recently went to his home state Gujarat to celebrate his 69th birthday and even shared a picture of his visit to Kevadia.

At first, PM Modi tweeted about Sardar Patel’s monumental contribution to the country and paid him tributes-

“देश की एकता के सूत्रधार लौह पुरुष सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल को उनकी जन्म-जयंती पर शत-शत नमन।

Tributes to the great Sardar Patel on his Jayanti. His contribution to our nation is monumental.”

Further, the PM tweeted a clip of him paying floral tributes to Sardar Patel at the statue-

“He was the stalwart who unified India.

A leader of farmers, a great administrator and uncompromising when it came to safeguarding rights of the poor, India will always remember Sardar Patel’s unparalleled contribution.

Paid tributes to him at the ‘Statue of Unity.’”

Addressing on occasion of the National Unity Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, PM Modi hailed nation’s rich diversity and thousands of years old ways of life that encourage National Unity and people’s resolve to stand in unity.

He said-

“We have our pride in our Unity in Diversity. We derive our respect and identity out of it. We celebrate our Unity in Diversity. We don’t find any contradictions in our diversity, rather we find a strong thread of Unity in it.”

Further, he added-

“The celebration of diversity, the festival of diversity actually touches the chord of unity in our hearts. When we respect our different ways of life & traditions then the feeling of harmony and brotherhood would develop further; hence at every moment we have to celebrate our diversity and this is nation building.”

PM Modi referred to the phrase “We the People of India” in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution and said-

“This is not a mere phrase at the beginning of the constitution but the representation of the thousands of year old fabric of life in India. When Sardar Patel was on the herculean task of integrating more than 500 Princely states into India, it was this magnetic power which attracted most them into the country.”

Then the PM said that India’s goodwill and influence are rising globally, and national unity is the reason behind it. He said-

“Today the entire world takes India seriously and that is due to our national unity. If India is one of the biggest economies in the World, it is due to our national unity.”

He also spoke on the historic decision of scrapping Article 370 in J&K and the growth and development in the North East region of the country. Also, he said that when we all go ahead on the path of National Unity, only then we can accomplish the goal of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”
