NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the first parliamentary meet of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the second consecutive win in the General Elections 2019.
When he arrived at the meet, he was given a grand welcome with a standing ovation from all the BJP MPs, along with flower shower and garlands. At the meet, he directed them to participate actively in the Parliament’s proceedings. He said that the government would make sure that the annual budget announcements reach every person in the country.
PM told them to work towards people’s betterment in the spirit of service. He would be launching the new membership campaign of the party from PM Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi on 6 July. He cleared that this campaign would be fair, transparent, and inclusive. It will begin by planting five trees at the booth centers.
Moreover, PM strictly warned his MPs and added that any misbehavior and indiscipline would not be tolerated. He said that there’s a zero tolerance policy towards misconduct by any BJP representative or leader (MP, MLA, and others part of BJP) who maligns the party’s image.
This warning is followed by an incident that happened last week in which Akash Vijaywargiya, the son of BJP’s National General Secretary Kailash Vijaywargiya, got arrested for assaulting a municipal official on duty with a cricket bat in Indore.
The Prime Minister read the riot act to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers in both the Houses of Parliament. A senior BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy told after the meet-
“PM Modi today conveyed a clear message to all the party members that such behavior is not acceptable, be it anyone. PM said any kind of misbehavior that brings down the party’s name is unacceptable. He said that action should be taken if someone has done something wrong. He also said that it is applicable to everyone.”
While addressing the party members and leaders, including Kailash Vijayvargiya, PM said that the said incident was against the party’s code of conduct, and no exceptions to such indiscipline would be there. Akash Vijaywargiya is a legislator in the MP (Madhya Pradesh) assembly.
PM Modi said that such incidents bring a bad name to the party and are completely unacceptable. He said-
“If somebody commits a mistake, there should be a sense of apology as well.”
It’s not the first time that Modi has spoken against indiscipline by party men. Previously, he condemned Bhopal MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur for praising and calling Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a patriot.
Similar to a notice issued to Pragya Senior BJP leaders for her Godse comment, the party leadership could issue a notice to Akash asking for an explanation.
“Even if people are family members of anybody in the party, such actions will not be tolerated and there will be no exception. Whoever it may be, whoever’s son he may be… such arrogance, misbehavior cannot be tolerated.”
He added that people couldn’t be allowed to get away doing or saying whatever they wish.
Also, during the meeting, PM asked MPs to ensure that they attend the Parliament sessions and expressed unhappiness at the poor attendance of BJP MPs when the triple talaq bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha.
PM Modi shared pictures of the meet and tweeted-
“Had a great @BJP4India Parliamentary Party meet earlier today. A wide range of issues were discussed. Looking forward to a fruitful session ahead.”
