PM Addresses 5th Eastern Economic Forum, Meets Various World Leaders

RUSSIA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday concluded his “productive” visit to the Far East region of Russia. After meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin on day one, PM Modi attended the two-day-long Eastern Economic Forum, an international forum held every year in Vladivostok in Russia. He addressed the world leaders and people at the yearly forum on the second day of the visit.

PM Modi is the first Indian PM to have ever visited the Russian Far East region. He discussed with President Putin to further bilateral cooperation in oil and gas, trade and investment, nuclear energy, transport infrastructure, mining, hi-tech, defense, outer space, and maritime connectivity.

PM Modi and President Putin held delegation-level talks at the 20th India-Russia Annual Summit which went on for two hours. The bilateral talks aimed to bolster the special and privileged relationship between the two nations. Also, India and Russia signed 15 agreements/MoUs in various sectors like defense, energy, natural gas, air and maritime connectivity, petroleum, and trade.

On the sidelines of the forum, PM Modi met several world leaders from different countries who came to attend the event. At first, he met Japanese PM  and wrote about it in a tweet-

“Delighted to meet PM @AbeShinzo in Vladivostok. We had in-depth discussions on a wide range of subjects, particularly bettering trade and cultural relations between our nations. Our countries are also working together on various global forums to create a better planet.”

Later, he held a meeting with PM of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. He tweeted-

“Had a great meeting with Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, PM of Malaysia. We talked about bilateral ties between our nations and ways to further diversify cooperation.
@chedetofficial”

Then, PM Modi met the President of Mongolia, Mr. Khaltmaagiin Battulga. He wrote in a tweet-

“Engaging with a cherished spiritual friend and developmental partner.

Held talks with Mr. Khaltmaagiin Battulga, the President of Mongolia. We reviewed the full range of bilateral ties and deliberated on ways to enhance cooperation for the mutual benefit of our people.”

As the Chief Guest of the forum, he said that he felt honored and happy for getting the opportunity of interacting with fellow world leaders. He tweeted-

“Honoured to have been the Chief Guest at @en_forumvostok. Happy to have got the opportunity to interact with fellow world leaders.

EEF is an example of President Putin’s stupendous efforts to further develop the Far Eastern Region and India will support him in this endeavour.”

Before leaving for India, PM Modi called his visit to Russia a “productive” one and said that its outcomes would bring Russia and India closer. He tweeted-

“Thank you Russia! This has been a productive visit.

The outcomes of this visit will bring Russia and India closer. Gratitude to President Putin, the Government and people of Russia for their hospitality.”

Also, PM Modi announced an “unprecedented” 1 billion dollar line of credit towards the development of the resource-rich Russian Far East region, promising that New Delhi would work in tandem with Moscow.
