Prime Minister on Wednesday declared the launch of ‘Khelo India School Games’ and said this event will help to nurture India’s talent. He declared the opening of KISG at an Indira Gandhi Stadium, addressing the people, he said that sports should form a central place in the lives of youth.
He said – Sports is an important means of personality development and Khelo India is not a programme, it’s a mission. The Games will highlight India’s young sporting talent and showcase India’s sports potential”.
“Khelo India is not only about winning medals. It is an effort to give strength to a mass movement for playing more. We want to focus on every aspect that would make sports more popular across the nation,”.
In addition, Mr. Modi urged youngsters to take up the sports as a necessary and important tool to make a country more developed.
He further said – “When we say India has to grow on the world stage, it does not only mean having a strong army & powerful economy. It includes people of India distinguishing themselves as scientists, artists, sportspersons. And, I am confident India will scale these heights. I trust our youth.”
He also asked youngsters to invest their time in sports amidst of their schedules. He said it feels great seeing youngsters from rural areas excelling as a sportsperson. Surprisingly, Mr. Narendra Modi also decided to select 1000 kids every year from sports and will provide 5 lakh p.a. for 8 years.
“Coaches should be recognized, especially childhood coaches who have unearthed them and helped them grow in their area. So we have decided to reward every coach of a sportsperson who brings laurels for the country,”
The Khelo India School Games will be host across 16 disciplines, 5000 school children under 17 years age from different states, will participate in the event from Jan 31st to 8th February 2018. A stack of 199 gold medals, 199 silver, and 275 bronze medals will be kept in the first schedule of KISG.
