Cyclone Amphan: PM Modi Prays for Normalization of Situation in Odisha & West Bengal

The Cyclone Amphan hit the North and South 24 Parganas & state capital Kolkata as it made the landfall on Wednesday. This fiercest cyclone in the last 283 years wreaked havoc, uprooting trees, bringing down electricity poles, and damaging buildings.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished for the situation in West Bengal and Odisha to normalize at the earliest. He also said that authorities are working to ensure all possible support to the affected people. He wrote on his official Twitter handle about the Odisha state that’s bravely battling the cyclone effects-

“My thoughts are with the people of Odisha as the state bravely battles the effects of Cyclone Amphan. Authorities are working on the ground to ensure all possible assistance to the those affected. I pray that the situation normalises at the earliest.

Also, the PM mentioned seeing the visuals of the devastating cyclone in West Bengal. He added that in this tough time, the whole nation stands in solidarity with the state.

Talking about efforts to ensure normalcy, he prayed for the well-being of the state’s people. He tweeted-

“Have been seeing visuals from West Bengal on the devastation caused by Cyclone Amphan. In this challenging hour, the entire nation stands in solidarity with West Bengal. Praying for the well-being of the people of the state. Efforts are on to ensure normalcy.”

Moreover, the PM said that NDRF teams are working in the cyclone-hit areas. He added that the top officials are monitoring the situation closely and working in close coordination with the state government of West Bengal. He further tweeted-

“NDRF teams are working in the cyclone affected parts. Top officials are closely monitoring the situation and also working in close coordination with the West Bengal government.

No stone will be left unturned in helping the affected.”

Furthermore, the PM is on his visit to the cyclone-affected states, West Bengal and Odisha, to take complete stock of the situation. He would conduct aerial surveys and participate in review meetings to discuss the aspects of relief and rehabilitation.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) wrote-

“Tomorrow, PM @narendramodi will travel to West Bengal and Odisha to take stock of the situation in the wake of Cyclone Amphan. He will conduct aerial surveys and take part in review meetings, where aspects of relief and rehabilitation will be discussed.”

Earlier, PM Modi chaired a meeting to review the preparedness of Cyclone Amphan. Until now, the cyclone has claimed 72 lives across the affected states. Due to the cyclone, water and power were also not available in parts of Kolkata yesterday morning. It also disrupted the cellphone and internet service due to damage of various communication towers.

In Odisha, the cyclone caused far-reaching devastation, damaging the power and telecom infrastructure in many coastal districts. The Odisha government officials estimate that it has affected nearly 44.8 lakh people there.
